Family Demands Probe into Corps Member's Death by Army

Abdulsamad Jamiu, a 24-year-old National Youth Service Corps member, was shot and killed on April 25, 2026, in his home in Dei Dei, Abuja. His family disputes the Nigerian Army's account, which claimed he was caught in crossfire during a response to an armed robbery.

The Army's spokesperson, Odunola Olawuyi, described the incident as tragic, stating that Jamiu was injured during a brief exchange of gunfire with fleeing robbers. However, Jamiu's family insists that he was shot inside his bedroom by soldiers who entered their home without proper authorization.

They argue that there was no evidence of a shootout, as no weapons were recovered and only one gunshot was heard. The family has called for an independent investigation, expressing concerns over potential evidence tampering and demanding accountability from the military.

They seek justice for Jamiu, emphasizing that their aim is not vengeance but the truth regarding the circumstances of his death.
