Corps Members Face Water Shortage at Lagos NYSC Camp

Corps members at the Lagos NYSC camp are facing significant water shortages, which they allege are caused by inadequate water storage facilities and irregular power supply. Corps member Annabel, deployed from Anambra State, described the situation as stressful, often requiring members to wake up early or even at midnight to fetch water.

Another member, Ibrahim, noted that the shortage forces residents to ration water for basic domestic activities. Female corps member Simpli Mari mentioned the challenges of carrying water up long stairways, especially when water pumps stop running by 3:00 AM.

The situation has led to accidents, including injuries sustained by a female corps member during a rush for water. Corps members have reported that existing water tanks are insufficient for the growing population at the camp.

Mr. Omolola Aladesoun, head of the public relations unit at NYSC Lagos, acknowledged the challenges and mentioned that the water supply issues are being addressed, particularly during power outages.
