Council of Legal Education Increases Law Quotas for 2026

The Council of Legal Education in Nigeria has approved increased Law admission quotas for eight universities, with the changes set to take effect from either the 2026/2027 or 2027/2028 academic session. Elizade University saw the largest increase, with its quota rising from 70 to 120.

Olabisi Onabanjo University increased from 170 to 220. Other universities, including Bowen University, Ajayi Crowther University, Topfaith University, and Joseph Ayo Babalola University, had their quotas doubled from 50 to 100.

Chrisland University increased from 50 to 70, while North-Eastern University rose from 50 to 75. In contrast, Maranatha University's application to establish a Law faculty was rejected, and Atiba University received a 10-year moratorium, preventing it from offering a Law program.

The Council did not provide public explanations for these decisions, which typically follow assessments of infrastructure and academic standards. Additionally, 1,955 candidates sat the May 2026 Bar Final resit examination.
