Atiba University Banned from Offering Law for 10 Years

The Council of Legal Education has imposed a 10-year moratorium on Atiba University, Oyo State, due to deficiencies in its facilities and violations of regulations governing legal education. This decision was made during the Council’s Third Quarter Hybrid Meeting on August 13, 2026, at the Nigerian Law School headquarters in Bwari, Abuja.

Aderonke O. Osho, Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration, stated that the moratorium was a response to findings that Atiba University’s facilities were "inappropriate and inadequate" for a Faculty of Law.

The institution also violated its admission policy by admitting and graduating students without the necessary approvals. The moratorium aims to ensure compliance with legal education standards and protect the quality and integrity of legal education in Nigeria.

Additionally, the Council approved five universities to commence law studies in the 2026/2027 academic session while denying Maranatha University approval due to identified deficiencies.
