Sylva Linked to Coup Plot in Trial Against Six Defendants

In a trial concerning an alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu's government, a witness has testified that former Bayelsa governor Timipre Sylva had financial connections with the accused. The prosecution, led by Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, presented evidence involving six defendants, including Colonel M.

M. Aji, a military officer.

The investigation began after credible intelligence reports were received by the Chief of Army Staff, General O. O.

Oluyede. Following the analysis of these reports, Colonel Aji was arrested, and a Samsung Galaxy phone was recovered from his residence, which contained operational plans and code words used among the conspirators.

The phone also revealed a financial trail linking Colonel Aji to Sylva and other individuals involved in the coup plot. The case has been adjourned until May 4, 5, and 11, with further testimonies from prosecution witnesses expected.
