FG Seeks Extradition of Timipre Sylva Over Coup Allegations

The Federal Government of Nigeria is taking steps to extradite former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva due to his alleged involvement in a coup plot against President Bola Tinubu. This move was disclosed on Tuesday, with the government enlisting the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to assist in tracking Sylva for extradition.

The action aims to ensure Sylva's return to Nigeria to face prosecution. The Federal Government has filed a suit in the Federal High Court in Abuja, listing Sylva as the seventh defendant among six others, including retired Major General Moham Ibrahim Gana and retired Naval Captain Erasmu Ochegobia.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, is overseeing the proceedings, which are expected to commence before Justice Joyc Abdulmalik. The charges against Sylva and the other defendants remain largely unspecified in the report.
