Nigerian Investigators Thwart Coup Plot, Recover Weapons and Vehicles

Nigerian investigators have thwarted a coup attempt after recovering anti-aircraft guns, RPGs, vehicles, and cash from suspects, including military officers and civilians. Led by Chief of Defence Intelligence Emmanuel Undiandey, the inter-agency probe uncovered an elaborate scheme involving reconnaissance, funding, logistics, and propaganda.

The investigation identified retired Major General Adamu On Kei as a key figure in the network. Former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva allegedly financed the coup plot, transferring nearly 1 billion Naira through multiple bank accounts.

The plotters targeted top government officials for assassination and planned to detain senior military officers, including service chiefs. The suspects also aimed to seize control of the Presidential Villa, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, and other strategic locations.

The investigation has led to arrests and ongoing efforts to dismantle the remaining network.
