El-Rufai's Bail Hearing Adjourned Amid Security Concerns

The Federal High Court in Kaduna has adjourned the bail hearing for former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai until Wednesday, following a court session that took place under heavy security due to the high public interest surrounding the case. El-Rufai is facing 10 counts of corruption, including allegations of money laundering and possession of public property.

His counsel, Ukpong Akpan, confirmed the adjournment but did not provide further details. The court had previously scheduled a hearing for March 31, 2026, regarding the bail application, but the Anti-Corruption Commission filed charges against El-Rufai on March 27, 2026, following the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, in Cairo, Egypt.

El-Rufai was also arraigned in a separate case at the Kaduna State High Court alongside Amadu Sule, facing charges of abuse of office and intent to commit fraud. The Federal High Court is expected to resume the bail hearing on Wednesday.
