Court Bans #FreeNnamdiKanu Protest in Abuja, Activists Restricted from Demonstrating

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted an interim injunction to restrain activists from organizing the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest scheduled for October 20 around Aso Rock and the National Assembly. The court order came following an ex parte application by the Nigerian government seeking to prevent demonstrations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to maintain public peace and security.

Nnamdi Kanu, the IPOB leader, has been in DSS custody since June 2021, facing charges of terrorism and treason. The court's decision has dealt a significant blow to the activists' plans, with the US issuing a travel advisory warning its citizens to avoid protest locations in the FCT.
