CSOs Urge Senate to Reject Fasina's Ambassador Nomination

Civil society organizations (CSOs) have called on the Nigerian Senate's Committee on Foreign Affairs to reject the nomination of Professor Abayomi Sundai Fasina as Nigeria's ambassador-designate. The coalition cites ongoing investigations into allegations of sexual harassment and workplace victimization against Fasina, who is currently involved in two separate legal cases related to these allegations during his tenure as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE).

The CSOs argue that confirming Fasina would undermine public confidence in Nigeria's commitment to accountability and the rule of law. They reference a previous instance in 2009 when the Senate rejected Professor Tund Adeniran's nomination to avoid diplomatic embarrassment.

The coalition insists that ambassadorial appointments require a higher standard of public confidence and moral credibility, especially in light of unresolved allegations of misconduct. They urge the Senate to withhold confirmation until the judicial proceedings are concluded.
