Tinubu Urged to Withdraw Fasina's Ambassadorial Nomination

A coalition of civil society organizations has called on President Bola Tinubu to reject the ambassadorial nomination of Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE). The coalition's statement, issued on Friday, cites unresolved allegations and ongoing court cases involving Fasina, which they believe undermine public confidence in Nigeria's commitment to the rule of law and addressing sexual harassment.

The controversy surrounding Fasina began in January 2025, when allegations of sexual harassment involving a female staff member at FUOYE surfaced. The coalition emphasized that while Fasina is presumed innocent until proven guilty, it is inappropriate to nominate someone facing unresolved legal scrutiny for a representative role in the federal government.

The statement also referenced a previous confirmation by the Senate regarding non-career ambassadorial appointments, highlighting the importance of public accountability in such nominations.
