Court Affirms Jimi Lawal as Ogun ADC Governorship Candidate

On Thursday, a Federal High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, ruled that Mr. Jimi Lawal is the legitimate governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the upcoming Ogun State governorship election.

The judgment, delivered by Justice Abiodun Adeyemi, addressed a prolonged leadership and candidature dispute within the ADC, which had resulted in rival factions claiming the governorship ticket. Lawal, who had contested the party’s primary election against Biodun Ogundipe, filed a suit (FHC/AB/CS/97/2026) seeking to be recognized as the validly elected candidate.

Justice Adeyemi confirmed that the primary election was conducted properly and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission, thus declaring Lawal the official ADC candidate. Following the ruling, Otunba Femi Soluade, the Ogun State Chairman of the ADC, expressed that the judgment was a victory for democracy and emphasized the need for party unity.

Lawal described the verdict as divine intervention after a period of uncertainty regarding the party’s primary election.
