Court Rules Goodluck Jonathan Eligible for 2027 Elections

On a recent ruling, the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, declared former President Goodluck Jonathan eligible to participate in the 2027 general elections. The judgment was delivered in response to a suit that sought to prevent Jonathan from contesting, arguing that he had already taken an oath of office twice as President.

Justice Lifu dismissed the suit on the grounds of abuse of court process, stating that the matter had already been resolved by the Court of Appeal regarding Jonathan's eligibility. He emphasized that the suit wasted the court's precious time.

Additionally, Justice Lifu imposed a cost of N20 million against the plaintiff, awarding N1 million in favor of the Attorney General of the Federation.
