Court Upholds Malami's Candidacy for Kebbi Governorship

On Tuesday, the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed a suit aimed at disqualifying Abubakar Malami (SAN), the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for Kebbi State. The ruling, delivered by Justice M.

G. Umar, stated that the plaintiff, Abdulrazak Isa Iko, did not have the legal standing to challenge the party's primary election, as he failed to demonstrate participation in the ADC governorship primary.

Consequently, the court ruled that the suit lacked merit and dismissed it entirely, allowing Malami to maintain his candidacy for the 2027 election. This judgment follows a recent ruling by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, who ordered the forfeiture of over 40 properties linked to Malami, valued at over ₦212.8 billion, due to allegations of acquisition through unlawful activities.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) initiated these proceedings, asserting that the properties were acquired with illicit funds.
