Ex-SDP Chairman Gabam Faces ₦35 Million Fraud Charges

Gabam, the former National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), was arraigned alongside Chukwuma Uchechukwu in a magistrate court sitting in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, on Tuesday. The case involves six counts of alleged financial misappropriation, including forgery and breach of trust, totaling ₦35 million.

Gabam pleaded not guilty to the charges. Chief Magistrate Amaech Onyedium granted him bail in the sum of ₦3 million, requiring two sureties who must reside in Abuja.

The current SDP chairman, Abubakar, has initiated legal action against Gabam in an effort to sanitize the opposition party. Abubakar also alleged that the party previously petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prosecute Gabam, but no action has been taken.

The case is linked to events surrounding the SDP's national convention held in Bauchi on May 9, 2026.
