Court to Hear Suit for New Probe into Mohbad's Death

The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Jame Omotosho, has set May 28, 2026, to hear a suit aimed at compelling the Nigeria Police Force to reopen the investigation into the death of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. The suit was filed by the Break the Silence Foundation, a non-governmental organization, which seeks a mandamus order to ensure a thorough and impartial reinvestigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad's death in September 2023.

Counsel Tund Falola informed the court that the application follows previous submissions and that the police had been ordered to perform their statutory duties under Section 4 of the Police Act 2020. The suit also seeks to compel the police to invite individuals last seen with the deceased, including his wife Omowumi Cynthia Aloba and his father Joseph Aloba, who reportedly buried him hastily without police clearance.

The case has drawn significant public attention, leading to the #Justice4Mohbad campaign.
