Court Grants Emefiele’s Request for Forensic Review in Corruption Trial

The Special Offences Court in Ikeja granted former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele's request for a forensic review of WhatsApp evidence in an ongoing trial where he faces charges of corruption. Emefiele's legal team sought permission for an independent forensic expert to inspect a mobile device to verify the authenticity of WhatsApp messages presented as evidence.

The EFCC opposed the request, arguing that the exhibit had already been admitted in trial custody. The trial involves allegations of abuse of office and fraudulent property transactions amounting to billions of naira.
