Emefiele Challenges Fraud Trial in Court, Questions EFCC's Role

Former CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, is fighting back in court against charges of alleged procurement fraud. Emefiele is facing criminal charges including breach of trust, corrupt advantage, forgery, and conspiracy.

His counsel, Matthew Burkaa, argued in the FCT High Court to foreclose the prosecution trial, emphasizing that the EFCC has no jurisdiction in the case. The lead prosecuting lawyer was absent, leading to an adjournment until September 23.

Emefiele's defense team highlighted the absence of the EFCC's charge in court, questioning the agency's role in the proceedings.
