Emefiele Trial: EFCC and Defense Clash Over Forensic Evidence Examination

The trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Godwin Emefiele, took a turn as the EFCC and the defense team disagreed over the forensic examination of evidence in a Lagos court. The court had granted permission for Emefiele to engage a forensic expert to examine WhatsApp conversations on a mobile device.

However, the examination did not proceed due to disagreements on execution modalities. Emefiele is facing charges of corruption and fraudulent property receipt, to which he initially pleaded guilty.

The trial has been adjourned to September 24-25, 2025, for the forensic examination to be revisited.
