Ex-CBN Governor Emefiele Wins Court Approval to Hire Forensic Experts in EFCC Fraud Trial

Former CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, secured court approval to hire forensic experts in his fraud trial against the EFCC. The Lagos State Special Offences Court granted Emefiele permission to engage a forensic expert to examine WhatsApp conversations on a mobile device presented as evidence.

Emefiele, facing charges of abuse of office and corruption, sought to verify the authenticity of the messages. The presiding judge, Rahman Oshodi, allowed Emefiele's counsel to bring in an independent forensic expert to inspect the device.

The EFCC opposed the application, arguing that the exhibit should remain in court custody. The case involves Emefiele and Henry Omoile in a multi-billion naira corruption scandal.
