Court Sentences Fake Spiritualist to One Year for Fraud

Solomon Moses was convicted and sentenced to one year imprisonment by Justice C.N. Nwabulu at the Federal High Court in Abuja on September 8, 2026, for defrauding Sharon Kaur, an Indian woman, of $1,100.

Moses posed as a spiritual leader on a fictitious TikTok account, deceiving Kaur into believing she was receiving spiritual assistance. After receiving the money, he coerced her into taking a naked spiritual bath, which he recorded without her consent, and used the video to blackmail her.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reported that Moses threatened to release the video unless Kaur sent him more money. Following his guilty plea, the prosecution counsel, Maryam Hayatudeen, urged for a conviction.

The court also ordered the forfeiture of the $1,100 to Kaur through the EFCC. This case highlights the ongoing issue of online fraud involving impersonation and exploitation via social media platforms.
