Spiritualist Sentenced for $1,100 TikTok Scam in Abuja

Solomon Moses, a self-styled spiritualist, was sentenced to one year in prison by Justice C.N. Nwabulu in Abuja for defrauding Indian national Sharon Kaur out of $1,100.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reported that Moses posed as a spiritual leader on a fake TikTok account to lure Kaur, convincing her to pay for spiritual healing. He received the payment through his Zelle account, converted it to naira, and deposited it into his local bank account.

After receiving the payment, Moses tricked Kaur into performing a “naked spiritual bath” during a live video call, which he secretly recorded. He then threatened to publish the video unless she sent more money.

Kaur ultimately paid the $1,100 to prevent the video's release. Moses was arrested in Ekpoma following a petition.

At his arraignment, prosecution counsel Maryam Hayatudeen urged the court to convict him based on his guilty plea. The court also ordered the forfeiture of the $1,100 proceeds to the victim through the EFCC.
