DHQ Prosecutes 36 Military Personnel for Alleged Mutiny

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) in Nigeria has initiated a court martial to prosecute 36 military personnel accused of mutiny, which allegedly aimed to undermine constitutional authority. This announcement was made on a Friday, signaling a decisive move by the military high command to strengthen discipline and address threats to national security within its ranks.

The action follows a statement made on January 26, 2026, which first brought the allegations to public attention. Major General Samaila Uba, the Director of Defence Information, stated that the court martial reflects the armed forces' resolve to uphold discipline and accountability in the interest of national integrity.

The DHQ emphasized that the proceedings will adhere strictly to due process, ensuring that justice is dispensed fairly and impartially, with the rights of the accused protected in accordance with military justice principles.
