Court Orders Fresh APC Primary for Zamfara North Senate

A federal High Court in Gusau has nullified the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election conducted on May 19, 2026, for the Zamfara North Senatorial District. The primary was contested by four aspirants: Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura, Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura, Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, and Hamafi Moriki, with Kaura initially declared the winner.

Justice Hassan Dikko delivered the judgment virtually, stating that the evidence presented was sufficient to invalidate the primary due to non-compliance with the APC constitution and guidelines. The court found that there was no valid primary election as there was neither voting nor adherence to the party's rules.

Consequently, the APC has been ordered to conduct a fresh primary within 14 days to determine the party's candidate. Barrister Bello Galadi, representing Dr. Shinkafi, confirmed the court's findings, while Barrister Salahuddeen, representing Kaura, indicated that the party would consider its legal options regarding the judgment.
