Court Nullifies Ibadan Convention, Bars Turaki from PDP Chairmanship

The court in Nigeria has invalidated the Ibadan convention, prohibiting Kabiru Tanimu Turaki from presenting himself as the chairman of the party. The convention, which drew delegates from 36 states and the FCT, has deepened the crisis within the opposition party.

The court sided with aggrieved members who sought to halt the faction loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde. Instead, a caretaker committee led by Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu has been recognized as the legitimate working committee of the PDP pending the conduct of a valid national convention.

The faction loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has been affected by this ruling.
