NLC Condemns DSS for Alleged Mistreatment of Sowore

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), led by President Joe Ajaero, condemned the Department of State Services (DSS) for the alleged maltreatment of activist Omoyele Sowore. This incident occurred within the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja, where Sowore was reportedly subjected to intimidation and humiliation by DSS personnel.

The NLC characterized the actions of the DSS as unnecessary and an embarrassment, emphasizing that such conduct should not be tolerated in a democratic society. Ajaero stated that the DSS's behavior was unbecoming and that there is no need for such displays of force against individuals who are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The NLC expressed concern that the DSS was overstepping its constitutional role, which includes monitoring activities without resorting to intimidation tactics. The organization called for a more respectful approach to handling individuals, particularly those involved in political activism.
