Court Denies Bail to Abuja School Terror Plot Suspect

On September 24, 2023, the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Joyc Abdulmalik, denied bail to John Jude Agbo, who is accused of plotting multiple attacks on schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The Department of State Services (DSS) arrested Agbo and presented evidence, including audio-visual recordings of his interview with DSS operatives, where he allegedly admitted to collaborating in the terror plot.

Justice Abdulmalik ruled that Agbo's defense did not provide sufficient assurance that he would not abscond if granted bail. Consequently, Agbo will remain in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service until the conclusion of his trial on charges of terrorism and cybercrime.

The prosecution formally closed its case against Agbo, and the matter has been adjourned until September 24, when he is expected to begin presenting his defense.
