Landmark Legal Precedent Set in Nigeria as Court Allows Service of Documents via Social Media

In a groundbreaking legal development, the Ikeja High Court in Nigeria has approved the service of court documents on social media personalities in a case involving popular social commentator Martin Ots, financial analyst Kelvin Emmanuel, and actress Dori Ogala. The case also includes the founder of Mountain of Liberation Miracle Ministries, Chris Okafor.

Justice Akintunde Savage granted the order, allowing legal documents to be served on the defendants' social media accounts on platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram. The court emphasized the need for the bailiff to provide proof of successful delivery of the documents online.

The case, which has sparked fresh controversies online, involves allegations of blackmail and extortion, with the court ordering a restraint on the defendants from making statements about Dr. Okafor's church ministry across various platforms.

The next hearing is scheduled for February 25, following the preliminary objections set for January 22.
