Court Restores NYCN Registration, Disbands Interim Committee

On October 6, 2025, the Federal High Court in Abuja delivered a judgment reinstating the registration of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and its leadership under Ambassador Sukubo. The court ruled that the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) lacked the statutory authority to determine the tenure of the NYCN's leadership and had acted unlawfully by appointing an interim management committee led by Buhari Shehu on October 7, 2025.

Justice Binta Nyako declared the CAC's actions null and void, emphasizing that the interim committee's creation was unconstitutional. The court ordered the immediate restoration of NYCN's registration certificate and recognized Sukubo's legitimate Board of Trustees.

The ruling addressed legal questions regarding the CAC's powers under the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, particularly concerning the suspension of trustees and the appointment of interim management. The judgment emphasized that the CAC exceeded its authority and that the NYCN's leadership structure should remain intact pending further judicial determination.
