CPPE and LCCI Push for Trade Expansion Before Tinubu's UK Visit

The Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise (CPPE) and the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) are calling for trade expansion in anticipation of President Bola Tinubu's state visit to the United Kingdom scheduled for March 18-19, 2026. This visit marks the first by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years.

Dr. Muda Yusuf, Chief Executive Officer of CPPE, highlighted the significance of the visit on multiple fronts, including diplomatic, economic, and security aspects.

Dr. Chinyere Almona, Director General of LCCI, noted that the visit presents a historical opportunity to recalibrate Nigeria-UK relations, particularly in economic diplomacy.

Recent data indicates a strategic importance of the UK to Nigeria's economy, with Nigeria recording capital imports from the UK of approximately $6.01 billion in Q3 2025. However, the trade relationship remains structurally imbalanced, with UK exports to Nigeria significantly exceeding Nigerian exports to the UK.

The stakeholders urge a focus on deepening economic ties, especially in promoting exports.
