Sultan of Sokoto Advocates for Peaceful Fulani Recognition

On Wednesday, at the 2026 National Conference of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Abuja, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, called on Nigerians to refrain from labeling kidnappers, bandits, and terrorists as Fulani herdsmen. He emphasized that criminals should be recognized solely as criminals, irrespective of their ethnic background.

The Sultan assured that Fulani communities are committed to collaborating with security agencies to eliminate criminal elements from their areas. He stated, “We mean no harm to anybody,” and highlighted that the actions of a few should not tarnish the reputation of millions of peaceful Fulani individuals.

Additionally, he commended President Bola Tinubu for the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, viewing it as a significant advancement for Nigeria's livestock sector. Baba Othman Ngelzarma, the National President of MACBAN, echoed these sentiments, condemning all forms of crime and asserting that no ethnic group should be blamed for the actions of a few individuals.
