Niger Governor Bago Calls for Fulani Cooperation on Security

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has issued a call to Fulani community leaders to collaborate with security agencies in identifying and exposing criminal elements within their communities, in response to a surge in kidnappings and banditry. During a meeting with Fulani leaders, Bago expressed concern that ongoing insecurity is tarnishing the reputation of law-abiding Fulani families.

He highlighted that victims of kidnappings often accuse Fulani criminals, leading to increased tension and mistrust among residents. Bago urged community leaders to encourage individuals involved in criminal activities to abandon violence and return home, stating that the silence from community members hampers security efforts.

He also noted that some armed men are being shielded by locals who know their identities. The governor emphasized that legitimate activities such as grazing and schooling should not be hindered, and he called for community cooperation to provide intelligence that could lead to arrests and prosecutions.

Bago's remarks come amid renewed concerns over security challenges in Niger State.
