Crisis in Kwara APC Over Danladi-Salihu's Candidacy

A significant crisis is unfolding within the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu's ambition for the 2027 governorship election.

During a press conference held in Ilorin, a faction of party elders condemned Danladi-Salihu's candidacy, questioning his competence and charisma to represent the party effectively. They expressed concerns that unless President Bola Ahmed Tinubu intervenes, the APC risks losing the state to the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

The dissenting group, led by Chief Jame Bamisaiy Ayenioy, criticized the process that led to Danladi-Salihu's emergence as the candidate, labeling it flawed and lacking credibility. Conversely, another faction of APC elders defended Danladi-Salihu, asserting he enjoys broad support, particularly among young voters.

They dismissed the criticisms as unfounded and emphasized the need for unity within the party ahead of the gubernatorial primaries scheduled for May 21, 2026.
