Kwara APC Elders Split Over Danladi's Candidacy for 2027

Elders within the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are in disagreement regarding the candidacy of Yakubu Salihu Danladi for the 2027 governorship election. A group of elders, led by Chief Jame Bamisaiy Ayeni and including Senator Moham Ahmad Makanju and Justice Salman Jawondo, publicly rejected Danladi's candidacy.

They called for intervention from President Bola Tinubu and the national leadership of the APC, criticizing the primary election outcome and asserting that Danladi lacks the statewide appeal necessary to unite the party against a resurgent opposition. This faction accused Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of failing to provide an accurate assessment of the political realities in the state.

Conversely, a rival faction, which includes senior government officials and advisors, expressed support for Danladi, maintaining that the primaries were valid and reaffirming his candidacy. Ambassador Abdullateef Gidado Alakawa spoke on behalf of this group, describing dissenters as interlopers not recognized by the party.
