Cross River Summit Enhances Citizen Participation in Governance

During a public advocacy summit in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, Governor Otu, represented by his deputy Dr Peter Odey, emphasized the significance of citizen participation in governance. The summit, themed around promoting public engagement, highlighted the administration's commitment to incorporating public feedback into government policies and programs.

Otu stated that effective governance reflects the aspirations and concerns of the people, and he encouraged political officers to conduct regular town halls to maintain a sustainable connection with citizens. The governor noted that several initiatives have been introduced based on citizens' demands.

Retired Colonel Pam Ogar, in his keynote address, called for stronger collaboration between the government and citizens, advocating for constructive dialogue and responsible criticism. Beatrice Akpala, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Content Development and Archiving, described the summit as a platform to enhance participation and collaboration, ensuring citizens remain active partners in policy development.
