FG Commends Otu for Reviving Cross River Newspaper Hub

The Federal Government commended Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu for reactivating the Cross River State Newspaper Corporation, which has been renamed the Cross River Information Hub. This commendation was made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during a keynote address on Thursday in Calabar.

Idris described the reactivation as a significant investment in democracy and public communication, highlighting the importance of restoring an institution that has served the state since its establishment in 1971. He emphasized that effective governance relies on effective communication with the public.

Idris also addressed the evolving media landscape, stressing the need for truth and accuracy in journalism despite technological advancements. He urged journalists to prioritize ethics and credibility, warning that public trust is hard to regain once lost.

Additionally, he discussed the economic reforms under the Bola Tinubu administration, particularly the removal of the petrol subsidy, which he deemed necessary for redirecting resources to critical sectors.
