CSOs, Netherlands Embassy Ask FG To Strengthen AI Policies

Civil society organizations (CSOs) and the Netherlands Embassy have urged the Nigerian federal government to strengthen its policy framework on artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance digital security and justice nationwide. This call was made during a workshop organized by the Paradigm Initiative, a digital rights advocacy group, in partnership with the Netherlands Embassy in Abuja.

The Deputy Ambassador of the Netherlands to Nigeria, Robert Sonnemans, emphasized the urgent need for proactive policy development around AI to take advantage of its benefits while mitigating risks. The workshop aimed to equip prosecutors and judicial officers with the necessary skills to address cybercrime and safeguard digital rights.

Representatives from the Federal Ministry of Justice highlighted the evolving role of prosecutors in the digital age and the need for Nigeria to fully harness the potential of AI in tracking and mitigating security threats. The workshop is part of a broader program sponsored by the Netherlands Embassy to increase awareness of digital rights and AI among key stakeholders in the justice sector.
