CUPP Chair Condemns Attack on Peter Obi in Benue State

High Chief Peter Ameh, the Acting Chairman of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), condemned the attack on Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the party, during an incident in Benue State on Tuesday. Ameh described the attack as "ridiculous and unacceptable," emphasizing that no citizen should face harassment or obstruction on public roads.

He referenced the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, highlighting Sections 41(1) and 40, which guarantee citizens' rights to free movement and assembly. Ameh expressed concern that if the attack was indeed supported by state government officials, it would be deeply troubling and warranted thorough investigation.

He urged the Benue State government to publicly denounce the incident and ensure that Obi's visit proceeds without further interference. Ameh called for peace, accountability, and adherence to the rule of law, insisting that public office should not be used to intimidate citizens.
