Youth Leaders Condemn Attack on Peter Obi in Benue

The Forum of National Youth Leaders of all Political Parties in Nigeria (FNYLPPN) condemned the alleged obstruction and harassment of Peter Gregory Obi, the Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), during his planned humanitarian visit to Benue State on September 8, 2026. The statement, signed by Hon. Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu, National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and Comrade Ozu-Fredrick Lamawal, National Youth Leader of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), called on the Benue State Governor to take responsibility for the incident.

Reports indicated that Obi and his delegation were blocked along Boko Road near the Air Force Base in Makurdi by individuals reportedly led by a Special Adviser to the Benue State Government. The visit aimed to support families and Internally Displaced Persons affected by recent attacks in Yelwata, where over 200 lives were lost.

The FNYLPPN urged the Benue State Government to investigate the incident and ensure accountability, emphasizing the need for political tolerance and the protection of humanitarian efforts.
