Customs Seizes N3.95bn Illicit Drugs, Arrests Three Suspects

The Nigerian Customs Service, through its Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, Ikeja, announced the arrest of three suspects linked to the seizure of illicit drugs and controlled substances valued at approximately N3.95 billion. Customs Area Controller Gambo Aliyu disclosed this information during a handover of the seized contraband to relevant government agencies.

The contraband included synthetic cannabis, tramadol, codeine syrup, crystal meth, and other psychotropic substances, intercepted along border corridors and highways. The seizure comprised 5,669 parcels and 19 packs of synthetic cannabis weighing 3,116.9 kilogrammes, along with various other cannabis products and narcotics.

Aliyu stated that the operation is part of a sustained enforcement campaign against drug trafficking syndicates. The three arrested suspects will be transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and prosecution, ensuring the secure storage and eventual disposal of the narcotics in accordance with the law.
