Nigeria Customs Service Wins Commonwealth Gold Award

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) received the Commonwealth Environment and CSR Gold Award on July 31, 2026, in Glasgow, Scotland, for its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, Customs Cares. This award recognizes organizations that implement measurable, sustainable, and community-driven interventions aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Customs Cares was acknowledged for its significant contributions to education, healthcare, food security, and environmental sustainability, impacting over 10 million Nigerians across 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Timi Bomodi, Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Enforcement, Investigation, and Inspection, accepted the award on behalf of Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, describing it as a defining milestone in the Service’s transformation journey.

Adeniyi credited the honor to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and emphasized the importance of trust built through their initiatives, which include school renovations, healthcare projects, clean water provision, food support, and the Green Borders Initiative. Muthomi Njuki from Tharaka Nithi County, Kenya, also spoke on climate action and the necessity of partnerships.
