Nigerian Customs Seizes Expired Raw Materials Worth N36.5 Million in Lagos, Hands Over to NAFDAC

The Nigerian Customs Command at the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal in Lagos transferred expired raw materials valued at N36.5 million to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). The interception occurred during a routine cargo examination, where 440 bags of expired raw materials, weighing 25 kilograms, were seized.

The items, identified as stearic acid imported from Indonesia, were found to violate import regulations and pose potential risks to public health. The Customs Command reiterated its dedication to preventing the entry of expired and substandard products into the country, collaborating with relevant agencies for enforcement.

Additionally, the Command intercepted a 40-foot container at the Joliz Terminal containing falsely declared goods, highlighting its zero-tolerance stance on false declarations and smuggling activities. The Customs Command also reported a revenue performance exceeding targets, attributing the success to improved enforcement strategies, operational efficiency, and stakeholder compliance.
