Nigeria Customs Hands Over Expired Drugs to NAFDAC for Regulatory Action

The Nigeria Customs Service Tincan Island Command intensified its fight against illicit pharmaceuticals by handing over three containers of expired drugs to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). Comptroller Frank Onyeka disclosed the formal handover in Lagos, where the expired pharmaceutical products were identified.

The containers held expired tramadol tablets and diclofenac sodium tablets without valid NAFDAC registration numbers, posing a danger to public consumption. Onyeka highlighted the command's efforts to safeguard public health and national security through sustained anti-smuggling operations.

NAFDAC's Chief Regulatory Officer, Mr. Kareem Adekunle, commended the Customs Service for its collaboration and pledged to continue intercepting dangerous pharmaceuticals from entering the Nigerian market.

Customs boss Bashir Adeniyi praised the officers' dedication and emphasized the importance of combating illicit trade to ensure compliance with existing laws.
