Customs Seizes N43.5bn in Drugs and Expired Goods

The Nigeria Customs Service, led by Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi, has handed over seized narcotics, controlled pharmaceuticals, drones, and expired products valued at N43.5 billion to relevant government agencies at Apapa Port in Lagos. The narcotics were transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), while the controlled and expired pharmaceutical products were given to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

Adeniyi emphasized that these seizures reflect Customs' broader responsibilities beyond revenue generation, including securing the supply chain and protecting public health. He detailed the concealment methods used by criminal networks, such as hiding narcotics in vehicles and disguising restricted equipment as ordinary goods.

The operation intercepted 11 containers, including 15,245 parcels of cannabis sativa, 169,998 bottles of codeine syrup, and 100 high-definition drones. Adeniyi warned that allowing such items into the country could pose serious risks to national security and public health.
