Customs Seizes N3.95b Narcotics, Arrests Three Suspects

On Thursday, the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) transferred narcotics and illegal pharmaceuticals worth N3.95 billion to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Lagos. Comptroller Gambo Aliyu announced that the seizures resulted from intelligence operations along borders and roads in the South West region.

The operation led to the arrest of three suspected smugglers attempting to distribute the drugs. The seized items included 3,116.9 kg of synthetic cannabis, 26.1 kg of cannabis (skunk), 3.45 kg of ground cannabis, 1 kg of granulated cannabis, and 0.35 kg of crystal methamphetamine.

Additionally, 1,754 packs and 6,948 sachets of Tramadol, 1,200 Hypnox tablets, and 97 bottles of codeine syrup were also handed over. Aliyu emphasized the dangers of drug trafficking to public health and national security and stated that the Customs Service would continue to support the NDLEA in combating drug-related crimes.

The operation also included the interception of four cylinders of high-grade mercury, which would be handed over to the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency for further action.
