Customs Seizes N43.58bn Worth of Drugs in Apapa

The Nigeria Customs Service, Apapa Area Command, announced the seizure of 13 containers containing hard drugs and expired goods, with a total duty-paid value of N43.58bn. Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, detailed the contents, which included narcotics, controlled pharmaceuticals, security-sensitive equipment, and expired goods.

Notable seizures included a 40-foot container with 4,777 parcels of cannabis sativa weighing 2,388.5kg, and another with 8,287 parcels weighing 4,145kg. Additionally, a 20-foot container was intercepted with 2,181 parcels of cannabis sativa and various other items.

The operation also revealed containers carrying codeine syrup, used clothing, and expired products like tomato ketchup and antiseptic liquid. Adeniyi emphasized the national concern regarding the abuse of substances like codeine among youth, linking it to violence and family breakdown.

The seizures were a result of collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and supported by international intelligence.
