Customs Seizes ₦362m in Smuggled Goods in Adamawa

The Adamawa and Taraba states commands of the Nigeria Customs Service intercepted smuggled items valued at over ₦362 million. Controller Mohammed Tako briefed journalists on Wednesday at the command’s headquarters in Yola, revealing that the seized items included 220kg of pangolin scales, 74kg of ivory tusks, 25,295 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 9kg of Cannabis Sativa, 64 pieces of complete raw donkey skin, and 534.55kg of dried donkey meat.

The operation also led to the seizure of three vehicles and the arrest of five suspects, who are under investigation for prosecution. The interceptions occurred between June and July 2026, with specific dates and locations provided for each incident.

The operations were conducted under the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023, and aimed at combating smuggling, which undermines national security and public health. Tako reiterated a zero-tolerance policy for illicit trade and stated that offenders would face legal consequences, including asset forfeiture.
