Nigeria Customs Service Seizes N721.9m in Contraband

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Sokoto/Zamfara Area Command, intercepted assorted contraband goods with a Duty Paid Value of N721.9 million. This was disclosed by the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Haliru Isah Abdullahi, during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Sokoto.

The seizures align with the policy of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, focusing on consolidation, collaboration, and innovation. Despite insecurity in the region, the Command has maintained anti-smuggling operations.

The seized items included one used DAF truck, 599 bales of second-hand clothes, seven sacks of second-hand women’s bags, 43 cartons of cigarettes, seven cartons of Akouna coffee, and a large quantity of unregistered pharmaceutical products. The total Duty Paid Value of the seized items was N721,957,021.41.

Abdullahi urged Nigerians to provide credible information to combat smuggling and warned smugglers that the Command would not tolerate economic sabotage.
