Nigerian Customs Seize N2.28 Billion Undeclared Currencies at Lagos Airport

The Nigerian Customs Service at Murtala Muhammed International Airport intercepted undeclared foreign currencies worth N2.28 billion from an Austrian national, Kavlak Onal. The suspect was apprehended while trying to board a flight to Dubai with over 651,505 euros and 800,575 dollars hidden in a travel bag.

Customs Comptroller Chidi Nwokori disclosed the seizure, emphasizing that the amount exceeded the legal permit threshold of $10,000. Richard Adejumo from the EFCC commended the successful prevention of fund smuggling.

Failure to declare foreign currencies above the approved threshold can lead to prosecution and forfeiture.
