Nigeria Customs Seizes N1.3bn Smuggled Vegetable Oil

The Nigeria Customs Service reported the seizure of smuggled vegetable oil products valued at approximately N1.314 billion, with a total of 65 seizures recorded from 2025 to 2026. Comptroller General Adewale Adeniyi announced these figures during a meeting with stakeholders in the vegetable oil industry in Abuja.

The service is committed to combating smuggling through strategic enforcement and intelligence gathering, aiming to protect legitimate businesses and encourage investment in the agricultural sector. Deputy Comptroller General Timmy Bomodi noted that several seizures occurred across key border corridors, including Seme and Idiroko.

Dr. Fatai Afolabi, founder of the Plantation Owners Forum Nigeria, commended the Nigeria Customs Service for creating a dialogue platform to address the need to clamp down on vegetable oil smuggling, which undermines local production and threatens jobs across the value chain.
